ok, let see what are the materials are availble in market (esp. in india).
1. Particle board
2. MDF
3. MR or commercial Grade ply- (both MR and BWR having same IS code 303, but resin used in both the ply is the only difference.)
4. BWR Grade ply- (both MR and BWR having same IS code 303, but resin used in both the ply is the only difference.)
5. BWP Grade ply- (IS code: 710, actually no one will use this ply for interior design its mainly meant for industrial purpose; but most of the people(carpenters, modular kitchen dealers, interior designers etc) are using this term falsely to sell their MR or BWR products to their customer :) :))
Above mentioned materials are widely used for home interior and exterior work. apart from these materials, we have lots of materials in the market in different names. will discuss about those things later.

Finding right material for your Modular Kitchen or Interior Design?-1

  Once the Builder or Engineer confirmed the delivery of our apartment or villa; the first thing come to our mind will be going for interior design and modular kitchen. so, from that moment we start looking around the interior work done by our friends and relatives… and visiting multiple shops… and dialling to local search engine for contacts… and getting lots of quotation from the different contractors,carpenters and interior designers… even after doing all these research.. we won't come to any conclusion…

Why this is happening? main reason is, we will be end up with lots of **Terminology** and **Rates** coined by the contractors or designers or carpenters in their quotations!!!
so how to find the contractor who used the correct terminology. lets crack all those terminologies and rates  in following post…. :) 

When to say Modular Kitchen is Beautiful?

Now a days in India, without modular kitchen none of the housewarming party is happening. because, people(esp. ladies) are very crazy about to show their beautiful modular kitchen to their relatives and friends. In that situation, how you justify yourself it is really beautiful? if you justified with colours means then you are wrong!!. Most of the people assumption about modular kitchen is  just covering the base and wall units with colourful and glossy laminated doors(shutters). Definitely, those people’s money will be nicely played by carpenters and interior designers. Then, What is modular Kitchen? and how to find the beautiful one? 

ok. Here the name itself says “Modular = Involving a module”. unique modules will be involved to make a complete kitchen.

Points to be considered for modular Kitchen work:

1. Pick what you want first?: Each, module consist of carcass(box) and shutters(doors) only; but purpose will be unique like, Sink unit, Gas unit, corner unit, tall unit, etc. these modules are constructed in the way of easy replacement at any time. For example, In future due to ageing if sink unit stinks, then you can easily replace that particular module alone and no need to disturb others.

2. Create good sketch: Standard Kitchen will have 36 inches of height from the ground to countertop(granite etc); These 36 inches = 2 inches of countertop thickness + 30 inches height of carcass & shutter module + 4 inches height of Skirting(carcass will be resting on PVC leg and it will be hided with PVC skirting). if you reduce the height, then you will not able to fit few accessories like pullouts, corner accessories, dishwasher etc.

3. Select right design for right place: like Modern, Contemporary, Traditional, Transitional, Classic etc.. it will go on.

4. Choose best material: In western countries and branded modular kitchen will make the carcass in pre-laminated particle board and MDF but its not good for Indian kitchen because our kitchens are mostly wet. so, carcass should be in BWR Grade (boiling water resistance ISI 303 ply). if your budget is low, then you can go for MR Grade(commercial ISI 303 ply). Usually, BWR will be 25-30% higher cost than MR grade.

If countertop or granite placed on 3 inches concrete bed and skirting also constructed in concrete(Semi modular Kitchen), then MR Grade Ply is sufficient. but in case of full modular kitchen, BWR is the only option. Then, carcass ply should be both side laminated and edges are covered with pvc tape. For shutters, same as carcass both side laminated and edges are covered with 2mm pvc tape. there are so many shutter types are available in the market like Edge banded(ply laminated with sharp edges), Post formed shutter(ply laminated with curved edges), Membrane shutter(pvc foil on the mdf or sandwich of mdf & BWR, Acrylic shutter(High gloss scratch resistance foil), PU coated(polyurethane painting on MDF), Rubber wood etc.

4. Find quality Kitchen accessories: There are lots of SS baskets and other accessories brand available in the market; make sure it is SS304 quality steel. If budget is not a matter then you have,High end International brands like Hettich, Hafele, Blum, Grass etc also.
